Success at the Broomhill 'Alternative' Village Show

25th September 2011

Two Country Market bakers and one preserve producer tasted success in the cooking and baking competition of the Broomhill 'Alternative' Village Show, 'A Taste of Broomhill'.  The show was organised by the Broomhill Action Neighbourhood Group (BANG) to reflect the diverse character of Broomhill by combining some elements of that traditional village show with others having a quirky modern edge.

Sara Brindley, one of Sheffield's new young bakers won First Prize in the Bread class with her Buttermilk and Honey Rolls inside a salt bread dough basket.  She was also the Overall Category Winner for 'A Taste of Broomhill'.

John Miller, who also produces for Penistone Country Market, dipped his toe in competitions for the first time and provided Sara with support by also taking Third Prize in the Bread class with his Gluten Free Garlic Bread.  Both of them received rosettes for their places which will no doubt feature at the next regular Saturday Market in Broomhill.

Sara and John are relatively new Producers in Sheffield.  Sara now has an extensive range of baking goods featuring bread and a wide variety of cakes.  Her profile is featured elsewhere on the website, click here to see it.  John partners his wife, Eunice, and produces a wide variety of baking made with gluten free ingredients which are in increasing demand both at Sheffield and Penistone.

Sue Anderson, one of our long standing members, also won a rosette for her Green Tomato Chutney, which is favourite from her wide range of pickles and chutneys she sell through Sheffield Country Market each week.
